Hi, I’m Betül, and I live in the Netherlands.
I’ve always believed that taking good care of your skin is important. But I never believed that more expensive or more complicated automatically meant better. Over the years, I became increasingly drawn to simpler approaches and ingredients that have been used and trusted for generations, and I started incorporating different botanical oils into my own skincare routine.
At some point, I discovered tallow — and I LOVED IT. What surprised me most was how beautifully it melted into my skin and how quickly it was absorbed, without leaving my skin feeling overly heavy or greasy.
I became fascinated and wanted to learn more. Tallow has a naturally rich composition of fatty acids and a lipid profile similar to that of our skin. It also contains naturally occurring fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, and K. I learned that these properties make tallow a naturally nourishing ingredient that can help support the skin’s natural barrier while leaving the skin feeling soft, smooth, and supple.
One natural ingredient, with so many of the qualities I was looking for in my skincare. I simply couldn’t stop using it.
But two things bothered me.
First, finding good-quality tallow wasn’t always easy. It could be difficult to source and was often quite expensive. And even when I did find good tallow, there was another challenge: consistency. Even when buying from the same seller, the quality could vary from one batch to another.
Second, using tallow meant adding yet another step to my skincare routine. I already loved using different botanical oils on my skin, and I started thinking: Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have one balm that brings everything together — combining tallow with the natural oils I already loved?
Then I realized that perhaps I didn’t have to keep looking for the perfect balm — I could try to create it myself.
That idea became possible thanks to my husband and my father-in-law, who together run a beef wholesale business. They had access to high-quality beef fat, so I decided to take the first step and try making my own tallow.
And that’s exactly what I did.
After experimenting with the process, I started developing my own balm and carefully searched for the right balance between tallow and the botanical oils I had already been happily using in my skincare routine. I wanted one beautifully balanced balm that brought everything together in one simple ritual.
I began using the balm myself, and after some time, people around me started noticing a difference. I received compliments and questions about my skincare routine. People would tell me that my skin looked healthy, soft, and radiant, and naturally, they wanted to know what I was using.
I was incredibly excited and proud, so I decided to let a few people around me try my balm.
The response was wonderful. They enjoyed using it too, and soon their friends and family started asking about the balm. Little by little, more people became interested, and I began receiving more requests.
In a way, these first customers became my little test group. They were incredibly happy with the balm, but they also shared honest and valuable feedback. Their experiences helped me understand what worked, what could be improved, and how I could make the balm even better. With every round of feedback, I refined the formula into what it is today.
I also started hearing from young mothers who were looking for something simple for their children’s dry skin. This inspired me to create a pure variant as well, for those who prefer a more minimal formula without added botanical oils. The mothers who tried it were very happy with the balm and shared their positive experiences with me. Their feedback was another wonderful confirmation that there was a place for this simpler version too.
What started as something I made for myself gradually grew into something other people wanted to experience too.
And that is how my little skincare journey became this Etsy shop.
For me, this journey has never been about inventing something new. It’s about bringing old, time-tested traditions back to life and letting them speak for themselves.
Every balm is still made in small batches, by hand, and with the same care and attention as that very first one I made for myself. What began as a personal experiment has grown into something I’m truly proud to share with others.
