Ballerina Clothes
I started designing costumes when my daughter was a little girl. We joined a ballet school and all of a sudden she was auditioning for her first Nutcracker ballet. The school was looking for someone to make a new costme for a particular scene and I mentioned I could sew. Next thing I know I am making costumes for every show and eventually took over the costume department as Costume Mistress. The funny thing is I never imagined myself as sewing. I went to Art school and I have a degree in graphic design. That was my passion. My mother worked professionally as a seamstress but I never had much interest. Somehow though, it sunk in and I realized I could do it. I also realized I enjoy it. It keeps me very busy as I make up to 60 professional costumes every year as well as maintain current costumes and accessories. While I do not have enough free time to make and sell costumes, I did manage to find some time to make a few headpieces. My hope is to share my work with other dancers, their schools and companies, with the hopes of making their productions even more amazing.
