Back to my first love
Background: Despite growing up in Houston, I was singularly focused on going to college and majoring in animal husbandry. I received my BS at Texas Tech and my MS at Texas A&M. After working in the cattle industry for 5 years, I then returned to Houston for my second and third careers. When I retired, my mother suggested that I take up painting. My mother was a painter and my brother John is a bronze sculptor who owns Agave Gallery in Fredericksburg. I took lessons from a renowned painter in Lake Jackson, Julia Crainer for a year and discovered that I really enjoyed painting and using my creative nature. I love returning to my “roots” by painting livestock that are all around me in the Texas Hill Country..
I absolutely love to take the photographs, get out in the pasture or pen with the animals. The pigs are the funniest - they are like little puppies! I then go through all the photos and choose the ones that I think will make good paintings. I like real close ups of the animals and so use zoom a lot. I am in my own world when I am painting - and love every minute. Hope you will enjoy my artwork in your home.
