How Arioso Design was born
You know that one thing in life that you love to do whenever you have the free time? That activity that gives you the "just give me two minutes to put on my shoes and grab my purse" feeling? Well, for me, this has always been to go antiquing. Whether visiting antique shops, flea markets, thrift stores, or a Saturday morning searching for yard sales, I have always been anxious to "just grab my purse" and set off on a treasure hunt.
So, when my husband said "Why don't you find a way to make going to flea markets a business?" well, let's just say that I was out the door before he had a chance to change his mind.
This lifelong love of all things vintage, and putting my new treasures together in a cultivated space, led to my journey into interior design and personal shopping. I believe that we already have enough "things" in this world and, whenever possible, we should try and reuse vintage items. This is why my home designs incorporate decor from many styles and time periods.
Yes, most of us would prefer a camera made in 2021 to one produced in 1961. But, for design purposes, those vintage cameras are both popular and fun to collect. So, if there is something in particular that you collect or have been searching for, let me know and I would be happy to add it to my personal shopping list.
Finally, I'm often asked why my company is called Arioso Design. That's a pretty simple one. Arioso is a musical term that means "vocal music that is more melodic than recitative but less formal than an aria". I studied classical voice, and still sing professionally as well as teach voice and direct a church choir. I used to say that "I sing, therefore I am". Life is music and if my home were described in musical terms, it would certainly be more formal than a recitative (those parts of an opera that are almost spoken) and less formal than an aria.
