4 out of 5 starsI really like it, perfect size for my uses, however the sliding nub that holds it shut is not as deep to keep it shut when it is in a pocket, you have to modify it a bit to get it stick shut.

5 out of 5 starsThis pointed pen is beautifully crafted and absolutely gorgeous in person. It's made of a purplish resin or acrylic that does have an odor when it's first removed from the package but once it's aired out overnight I didn't notice it. I'm super-sensitive to odor. It is wide at the tip so fitting it in a narrow, small jar with a nib is more difficult and you can't cover the nib up to the vent hole. Has a very fat grip. It's also textured so it feels a bit strange in the hand, but nothing that I can't get used to. The flange is brass and can be bent to fit different nibs. I'm pleased with my purchase and love the look of Ash Bush calligraphy pens!

How long does it take to make a custom pen?
Custom orders generally take 3-4 weeks (per pen) to make, more intricate designs and multiple pen orders may take longer.
*** Since every pen is hand-painted we can't guarantee exact design or color matches. Especially with marbling - the process is much harder to control. Also light colors are the hardest to marble, the wood shows through much more and the light colors may be difficult to see or make stand out.*
How much does international shipping cost?
International shipping starts at $14.50, with Canada being the exception (possibly lower rates to Canada)
How much does a custom pen cost?
Fully custom pens are $130 each.
How do I go about designing a custom pen?
Click the 'Request Custom Order' button, and please include the following information...
Type: Straight, right or left-handed oblique
Length: 5"-12" (or no preference will default to 8")
Shape: Please include a link or image of a specific shape you'd like, or specify no preference and we'll surprise you!
Design: Be as specific as possible. The more direction you give the better. Think of things like color, pattern, texture, scene, style, etc. Stretch the imagination, we love a challenge!

Flange Color: Brass, Silver or Copper
How do I adjust an affixed flange to fit different nibs?
Just squeeze the flange in to fit small nibs, and pull it back out for larger nibs. See video: https://www.instagram.com/p/BC5oHf3Mo8U/?tagged=ashbushholders
How do I remove a non-affixed flange?
Non-affixed flanges are pinned in place, but not glued in. You can pull the flange out, it will require some force. It's okay if the pin doesn't come out, you'll be able to push the flange back in.
It's recommended to glue in your flange once it'd adjusted to your liking to prevent wobbling over time. You can do that with any super glue or epoxy.
I'm a beginner what do you recommend?
We recommend carrot obliques with affixed flanges for beginners. The short and fat carrot shape helps alleviate hand cramps, and train you to have a light grip and light hand while writing. It also gives you more control because more of the pen is being held in your hand. Oblique's can seem odd to work with at first, but are easier overall because the flange puts the nib at the 50 degree slant needed for calligraphy, instead of having to turn your paper and perspective to that angle. The affixed flange is more stable and prevents wobbling, altho an extremely heavy hand will cause wobbling no matter what.
What's a carrot?
A carrot is a short 5" pen with a thicker grip. The thick grip helps alleviate hand cramping and works to train your hand to have a light grip and light pressure. It also maintains more control than other pens because more of the pen is being held in your hand.
Do you make ergonomic holders?

Does it come with a nib?
Fully custom pens, semi-custom Design Your Pens, and pens contained in a calligraphy kit come with a G nib. Colorful Carrots, Resonate pens and Paint it Yourself pens do not.
