When time permits, I sew on the side. I absolutely love everything batik-related and feel the need to share the beauty and knowledge of batik to the world. More importantly, in promoting and educating others around the world about batik, we are also preserving the culture of batik and helping those who create these beautiful pieces for us.
Recently, I have been working with batik makers around different parts of Indonesia and am so happy and excited to start introducing the more traditional batik tulis (hand drawn batik) in my shop. Batik tulis is the most traditional form of batik in the country of Indonesia. It uses a technique called wax resist dyeing, and the entire process can take anywhere from 1 month to even a year. Due to the complex process and effort, batik tulis is the most expensive form of batik. The designs, motifs, and colors of the batik can depict the origin or region, societal status, and purpose of usage. The final product of the batik will always be different and cannot be made the same exact way--it's always one of a kind.
In October 2009, UNESCO declared Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The purpose of this proclamation is to raise awareness of intangible cultural heritage and to encourage the people and community to protect and sustain these forms of cultural expressions.
Thank you so much for visiting, and please let me know if you have any questions at all!

4 out of 5 starsIt took over a month for this item to ship, and the seller wasn't great with communication. However, the batik is gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for.

5 out of 5 starsI love this piece of Batik Lasem in pink, red, and orange. The details in the design are excellent. The color is slightly darker in natural light, hopefully it will fade a little with time. Thank you very much,

5 out of 5 starsFrom what I can see on line this is a beautiful fabric with glorious pink/red/orange colors in a great design. I paid for it then cancelled my order as I was not certain if it would look as appeared on the website. However, I changed my mind and I do want to buy this piece. I have requested the seller to sell it to me. In the meantime, I also paid for another piece from this same seller. So far I am still waiting to hear from the seller.
