Original astrophotography, from capture to print
Astro Observer is the astrophotography work of Giancarlo Erra, based near Norwich, Norfolk, UK.
My interest in astronomy began more than twenty years ago in Italy, when an aerospace-engineer neighbour introduced me to observing the night sky. Today I photograph from my rural home and recording studio near Norwich, and the collection also includes work made under other skies.
Each finished image begins with light gathered over long sessions. A single work can combine hundreds or thousands of exposures, followed by careful calibration, stacking and processing. The process is patient, technical and quiet, much like making an album: many small decisions are made in service of one final image.
This shop brings that work into physical form. Every image is my original photography, prepared by me for print. Physical prints are produced and dispatched by Prodigi, a specialist production partner, using giclée printing on 200 gsm Enhanced Matte Art Paper. Prints are supplied unframed, so they can be displayed in a frame that suits your space.
The collection covers deep sky, the Sun, the Moon, comets, aurora and nightscapes. Technical capture details are included where available because the making of the image is part of its story.
