I am greatly inspired by nature, both wild and domestic. I explore a variety of animals and plants in my work, with much of it derived from inspirations from my life. I’ve found inspiration from camping and even spinning wool!
I strive to provide refreshing artwork to bring inspiration to your home in the form of original artwork and professional, limited edition prints. Most original artwork in my shop comes ready to hang on your wall mounted on a handmade gallery block. A Little About Me
My name is Callie Deming and I am an artist, a teacher and a wife. When I was a child my mother was a photographer and artist and was a driving force in encouraging me to foster my creativity. This encouragement led me to pursue a career in art.
While working on my bachelor’s degree, I discovered my first true love, printmaking. The repetitive, methodical nature of printmaking is beautifully meditative and won my heart by the end of my first class. However, now that I am no longer a student with access to some of the equipment needed for certain types of printmaking, much of my artwork is now created with watercolor.
After completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts, I struggled with how to make a career for myself using the education I put so much time and effort into. My first job out of collage was as a museum greeter. So while it was related to art, it was by no means fulfilling. At first I had dreams of starting a Co-Op and then drifted to trying to start a print studio with two of my best friends and fellow printmakers. However, we were all on different walks of our life and the organization and planning of it became too difficult to manage between the three of us.
Finally, I took a chance on a teaching job that the secretary of my collage art department referred me to. Now, I had thought minimally about teaching at a community college or university later in life after pursuing a master’s degree, but I never considered teaching children. But I went for it anyway, applying for and then taking the job teaching art to kindergarten through middle school students. I have to say, teaching has become one of the most fulfilling jobs I ever could have pursued!
It is so inspiring to see how inventive children can be, both in aspects of their creativity and how they find solutions to a problem. One of the wonderful things about art is that I can give an assignment to a group of students and each one will produce their own unique piece of artwork.
In addition to starting a new career, I am also newly married to a wonderful husband since 2016. We recently purchased our first home, and live with our “fur sons”, Arlo the Saint Bernard and Bjorn the Pyrenean Mastiff. With having a new home, my mind is filled with grandiose dreams of home improvement projects, gardens and self-sustainment through vegetable gardening and laying hens. However, my dreams are not limited to my home. I strive to share my artwork with others and continue to feed my creative processes.
