The story of our freeze-dried foods begins with a farmer in a rural Oregon town with a population of about 1,600 people.

Beth is not your typical local farmer. Beth is first and foremost a mother to 3 amazing, neurodiverse kids who are the inspiration behind the name. She is also a female farmer of color. Due to a variety of dietary restrictions and family members with severe sensory/textile disorders, Beth began making her own freeze-dried snacks from their farm fresh produce. Combine all the above and that's how Atypical Roots was born!

We pick fruits and vegetables fresh from our farm and, occasionally, from neighboring farms who have more than they can harvest. This way we can preserve food, like apples and pears, that might otherwise get left behind.

As a preservation method, freeze-drying is great for intense flavors. As our freeze-dried foods became popular with our friends, we started experimenting with their favorite treats for fun! Now our product line has expanded to classic and seasonal sweets.
