Putting the inspiration in Inspirationz!
I've always been creative, whether it be drawing, music, writing, cooking, or crafts. Crafts, though, are my passion. They allow me to make something useful (or otherwise enjoyable) -- and not make a mess that I have to wash up later (usually).
Somewhere in there I learned how to make blankets -- the fleece ones that you cut strips around the edge and tie. They are easy to make, and can be great gifts.
I have to say my first..."unique" craft was probably a purse made out from the cut-off leg of a pair of jeans my ex had. He'd cut them off below the knee to make them into shorts, and I thought, "I can make something out of that!" I did, too. From then on, I enjoyed making things like purses out of old clothes, and have made a few that I'm incredibly proud of.
I believe the next thing I made was a bunny flogger. The feeling of rabbit fur on the skin is absolutely incredible, and sticking to my BDSM roots it seemed an appropriate item. That year, I made dyed bunny floggers for a few friends as Christmas gifts, including my Mentor in Indiana.
Then, I'd always wanted a singletail, but they're so expensive when most people sell them! I thought, "If I just knew how, I bet I could make one for a lot less." Sure enough, a little research and crafting later, I had one for a fraction of the $60+ many places sell them for. I thought, "I can sell these!", and I've sold a few. I sell them by the foot, rather than have a set price for them. This makes them more customizable and affordable.
And it just goes from there. Singletails led to suede floggers, which led to cat toys. At one point, I decided I wanted heating pads that weren't electric, so I made those.
I try to keep my things affordable and reasonably priced, because while I'm out to make money I have a lot of time on my hands and usually the time I spend crafting is time I otherwise wouldn't have my hands occupied for.
