When the glove counters have all closed and the hat displays are but a dusty memory, when everything seems to be made from stretch polyester and designed for spontaneous yoga, where is the glamorously minded gal supposed to stock up on retro style staples?
Here at The Closet Historian it is my goal to find vintage clothing from both era's long gone and those within memory (the 1980's still loved to take inspiration from the past, thank heavens!) to help you create the vintage inspired wardrobe of your dreams. Since I'm always out scouring thrift shops for pieces to fill my own closet, I figured I should be sourcing things for everybody else to enjoy as well!

A longtime fan of vintage fashion and costuming blogs, I started The Closet Historian blog in 2013 as a way to document my adventures in style, sewing, fashion history, and travel. The Closet Historian has since expanded onto YouTube where I get to ramble on at length about vintage fashion and any other topic that happens to strike my fancy.
After discovering the world of high fashion through the pages of Vogue as a teen, my early interest in becoming a fine art painter wavered. Enamored with the work of designers like Alexander McQueen and Christian Lacroix, I put down my paint brushes and switched over to a needle and thread. Those earliest sewing projects led to a degree in Apparel Design & Production. It was there at university, while studying 19th century corsetry and the apparent stratagem behind retail shop layouts, that I discovered yet another passion– a love for writing fiction.
Now I design and construct the majority of my own wardrobe focusing on vintage inspired feminine style, vlog about my sewing projects, spend far too many hours thrift shopping, but all only when I can steal myself away from writing novels.
