Welcome to Bantering Bird Jewelry!
Inspiration....or distraction?
There really is a bantering bird.
Some recent additions to the shop.

A not-so-little bird tells me what should go into my jewelry designs.... Actually, we go back and forth about it quite a bit.

In all seriousness, when I'm not designing with colors and living textures in my garden, I play with colorful stones and a potpourri of artisan components in my handcrafted jewelry. It does take some finagling to get just the right combinations, but I really don't mind when winter arrives now because the tools and techniques are so much more varied in jewelry-making.

My jewelry often features unusual gems and stones, and I work with sterling and fine silver, brass, and most often copper. All the metalwork in my jewelry is my own, from texturing to patinas and hand polishing.

I favor simplicity, but also variety, and I'm particularly pleased to incorporate other artisans' components into my jewelry--especially irresistible lampwork glass beads and colorful ceramic pieces. In fact, my finished pieces are often inspired by those whose work makes its way into my own.

I like to say my handmade jewelry is the work of many hands, including nature's.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Your purchase will be attractively gift-boxed, and I'd be happy to add a special note if you are sending a gift to someone.

Multiple items are usually sent in a single, larger gift box to keep your shipping and handling charge lower. I can provide more than one gift box if requested, but this MAY require a shipping upgrade to Priority Mail (option available via the drop-down shipping menu), depending on the size of your order.

Sizing details

I am always happy to adjust my items to suit your preference if it is possible, generally for little or no extra charge. Need the earrings a bit longer or shorter? Not sure if that bracelet will fit the recipient? Need an extension on the necklace? I'll get back to you quickly--just use that contact button from within the listing.

Care instructions

Use a soft jeweler's cloth or polishing pad (not liquids) to keep silver, copper, or brass lustrous. Storing your jewelry in an ordinary plastic bag will slow the inevitable tarnishing of these metals, and it's always best to keep jewelry dry and chemical-free.

Some of my copper components are sealed to preserve a patina (as noted in item descriptions), but not all of them, as part of the charm of copper is that it darkens with age. Many individuals can wear copper without concern, but if your skin is particularly sensitive (i.e., turns green), I can arrange to seal your ear wires or suggest alternatives if contacted before a purchase. Niobium ear wires are one alternative for wearers with any kind of metal sensitivity and are available.
