Welcome to Barking Zebra Designs!
It all began with an exploration of graphic design, an old board game, and $200 in jewelry supplies.
At 16, rather than working the normal retail job, I decided to go against to norm and do something I actually felt interested in. After attending countless craft fairs as a child, I was inspired to make creations of my own.
With an urge to venture off the beaten path, I knew I needed to create pieces that were different than those currently saturating the market. Plus, I wanted my creations to be sustainable. Taking things apart and repurposing objects into new creations, by being frugal and unwasteful was always something I have loved to do. And so, in 2013 I began my little shop with handmade necklaces I created from recycled game tiles. The first necklace I posted on Etsy sold within a week. By high school graduation, I had created and sold 100s of necklaces, shipped to dozens of places around the world.
Five years later, I have fallen in deep creating many different types of jewelry, all from recycled, repurposed, and otherwise unconvential materials. Seeing peoples’ faces light up when they discover my creations, and meeting other creative people at local pop-ups and events are my favorite parts of being a maker.
