Meet Your Maker
I am Barney Ra Ra, I am also Katie Flood. I’m an Australian designer stemming from the forests of the North Coast of NSW, and spent my adult life on the beaches of Bondi in Sydney. My Irish Husband, after 10 years together in Oz, finally brought me back to Ireland in 2011 and we are cosy and settled in Dublin.
I’m rarely idle, I’m a maker, I have an insatiable curiosity for ‘DIY’, it's become somewhat of an identity for me, I find nothing more satisfying, empowering, joyous, or will bring a smile to my face than the process of a creative project made by hand, from concept inception, then fumbling with prototypes, from failure to success and failure to success again, to organic growth, change and bettering, to finally a finished creation.
When I started to design wearable projects I found I loved so much to create and hang my works on my body, they are all about making you feel delicious, some are custom made, some up-cycled, some reworked and transformed. It makes me feel amazing to wear something I made with my own two hands. I adore everything that ends up in my shop, I always end up with one in my wardrobe, every item is made with quality fabrics and detailing, and with the utmost attention to all things frou frou.
My designs are all about making you feel naughty but nice. It’s about all your womanly bits. My works are inspired by my daily life, a little bit of the 50s and 60s, pretty, and a little bit flamboyant, I love to go for glamour and guts. My wearables must be comfortable, they are for someone who is not bound by occasion, everyday is an occasion and an opportunity to feel amazingly beautiful and a little bit rebellious. I make pieces for people who love sparkles, polka dots, lace, glitter, frills, frocks, kittens, puppy dogs and winning an argument. The pieces are made by hand, made with passion, they are for people who support, love, and appreciate the quality and heart that is in handmade, that are part of the indie community and want to ‘meet their maker’, to know the people behind the products they love.
