How it all began . . .
My sculpting days began when I was about 6 years old in Pennsylvania. It all started with a yellow, modeling clay dog. He was about 3 inches tall. Then I grew up and trained for an art career in commercial design. Magazines and packaging paid my bills from a Los Angeles design studio. But somehow, I always came back to sculpting. It wasn’t until recently that I found my love
of needle felting.
I was attending a national quilting festival and as a gift to myself for having my quilt accepted into the show. I found what I believed was the perfect art supply. I bought a barbed needle and small bags of wool. (Three bags full seemed appropriate!) Since then it has become my one of my favorite mediums.
I am always thrilled with the magic that is involved with wool fiber. To start with materials the consistency of cotton candy, poke with a barbed needle literally thousands of times and forming it into a beautiful miniature sculpture. The end results are simply fascinating to me.
So now I spend my days with my wonderful family in Virginia Beach, VA making needle felted sculptures for galleries and
my shop on Etsy where I take orders for custom sculptures
from photos.
Just so you know, that first dog sculpture . . . I still have it!
(( Hugs to you! ))
