This was the only way I could get a matching set for my brown wool coat fabric. She always gets me the rings I need.

About

My Boss wouldn't let me knit at work

I have been creating with fibre; knitting, crochet and Dorset button making from a very early age. My Gran taught me a lot of what I know. I became a fibre addict in my early twenty's as I went through a prolonged period of very ill health. It was one of the few things I had that kept me sane. When I eventually returned to work I found that I was increasingly in need of my needles and yarn. I knitted at break times of course, but I had long periods of standing around waiting for people to talk to (I sold membership for English Heritage) with nothing to do. So I asked my boss if I could knit while I was waiting and he said no. And that was when I realised that what I really wanted was a job that let me knit, crochet and button make to my hearts content. So I handed in my notice (I did finish the season for my boss, so he didn't have to recruit through the busy time) and started my shop.

I started with Etsy as a way to test the waters while I was still working for English Heritage and planning my business. My Etsy shop helped me to refine what I wanted with my studio when I got it. I opened my studio in November 2011 and with the help of family and friends now have a thriving place where we hold regular workshops, drop in crafting sessions and where I design and make all sorts of fibre related things. I've learn't to spin and felt and I'm exploring both these new skills and seeing how they fit with my old ones. My Etsy shop is the place where I showcase the one off or limited edition creations. I am also very keen (on a mission you might say) to bring Dorset buttons to the world again. I started with the button kits as a way to teach button making to those who can't come to a workshop and they're doing very well. Etsy helps me reach a different audience.

I started the shop as a way to take buttons further, and to explore how fibre works and what I can create. I'm still looking for the limits.
