Handmade tableware and tiles, sculpted by an artist
I'm an artist, not a production potter, so all my pieces are one of a kind. (I do create bowl sets sometimes.)
I've been exploring ceramic as an art medium for over a decade, and I'm always expanding my repertoire. My background as a painter leads me to seek glazes with their own abstract beauty. And as a sculptor, I'm thrilled by the organic tension in handbuilt ware.
In recent years, I have primarily focused on creating and installing architectural tile murals -- you can see examples on my website, which is https://betsysharptile.com , but during Covid era I had to find an art form that doesn't involve going into people's homes.
I am beginning to offer custom tiles here on Etsy. They can take any form you like, as long as they have enough straight edges to allow you to easily install them. I will post more photos of possibilities in coming days.
Bowls also excite me right now: Their perfect purity as a vessel for anything. I'm constantly experimenting with new forms, new glazes, and new clay materials, so my available work will vary along the lines of what I'm currently thrilled by. These sculpted bowls have imperfections, which form part of their identity.
I live on a small island, entirely off the grid, and I fire my work in a small propane kiln.
