Sewing Patterns for DIY Dress Forms and More
Hello, I'm Inna, and these mannequins I designed and sewed myself. So can you!
While my background isn't in sewing or garment construction, my passion for design led me to pursue creating stylish clothing with my own hands. I delved into various pattern-making techniques, but found myself constantly adjusting patterns to fit just right. It became evident that translating complex draping onto paper was challenging; fabric could showcase it better. Additionally, altering clothing on oneself without a side view proved cumbersome.
Though I owned several mannequins, each had its limitations: one lacked pin support, another had incorrect dimensions, and yet another wasn't heat-resistant. Determined to craft a more functional dress form, I embarked on a journey to find suitable materials and methods. After several attempts, I successfully created the fourth prototype—a standard size M (US Size 6). This versatile form enabled me to sew my own designs and tailor purchased garments to my figure.
With dress forms of various sizes, I crafted numerous wedding dresses, including one remotely without fittings. Adjusting the bust of the mannequin to match the wearer's figure proved seamless. Observing how the dresses looked on the form versus the wearer was enlightening.
My fascination with historical clothing, particularly corsets and their impact on women's figures, inspired the creation of a specialized corset dress form akin to those used for sewing S-Bend Edwardian Corsets.
And thus, the concept of BetterSew dress form was born. With a dedicated team, we meticulously documented and photographed every detail, packaging patterns and instructions in user-friendly formats. All you need to do is print the patterns on a standard printer and let your creativity flow.
I hope that your handcrafted dress form helps you bring your designer dreams to fruition. Should you have any sewing inquiries, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to assist you on your creative journey.
