The Story Behind Big Ash Farm...
Big Ash Farm is a small farm on the eastern outskirts of Boulder, CO. We focus on raising Icelandic sheep for meat and fiber as well as heritage turkeys, fresh eggs and seasonal produce on a small, local scale.
Why do we do this? Because it's fun! Dare i say therapeutic? And as Alton Brown would say - Good Eats! ... A great way to keep active without having to go to a gym ... And a way we can contribute to our community and the world we live in, albeit small.
Our flock of Icelandics are pasture raised and have what could be considered the best 'room' in the house - an uninterrupted view of the Rocky Mountains - under the watchful eye of our guard llama, Guss!
Where did Big Ash Farm get it's name? Well - we have just that, a very big ash tree in our yard. In fact, the tree guy who came to look at trimming it claimed it to be the biggest ash (tree) he’s seen! So it seemed fitting. It also gives us some options should we ever lose the ash tree to that dreadful ash borer bug (please no!) – we could rename it Lost Our Ash Farm. ROFL!
