Hi ! I'm Jan, the owner of Birdyperch. We have been creating some amazing treasures . Everything we make is already in our everyday lives, so we wanted to share them with you, hoping they'll add some joy to your day.
Our country home here in Southern Virginia, is a place where my family and myself are able to create things with our own two hands .
We're not afraid to make mistakes , take time, try new things and to be creative.
That led my husband and I to design and build our own home , already in our 40's , ( had our fourth daughter at 43 ) it wasn't easy, but an amazing adventure ! We built our own cabin in the woods to continue to raise our family . My husband has knees and elbows that are more accurate than the weather man from all the work intensive labor ! It's been 11 years , and we're almost done! It was this love for creating things that made us want to surround our family with good vibes and energy. We asked ourselves "what are the things in life that help us have inner peace" , well a loving family certainly doesn't hurt. To go to bed every night with no regrets , and if there are any , do something about it the next day. To be very thankful everyday! A deep respect for nature is very important to my family and I , it has guided us through many hardships , loss of loved ones , and some of the happiest times. On those chaotic days when everything is so busy and crazy , birdwatching for me does a great job , candles lit emitting soothing aromatherapy throughout our home and something delicious and ooey gooey in the oven ! Through fall and winter the woodstove is welcoming , from time to time I'll cook up some eggs and such in the cast iron skillet , or a pot of ham & bean soup right on top of the Logwood . My Daughters inspire me everyday, and my kind - patient, & talented husband . He's my best friend . A very proud father of four daughters! 😳 I love them all so much. They are all such incredible human beings. Art has always been a huge part of our lives , We are always trying new techniques, different materials, whatever gets thrown our way we are ready to try it. Learning, failing at it , then trying again then succeeding -we hope , that's a good day! It really helps ground us.
We do hope everyone enjoys our shop , we are having so much fun making our bird treasures! I mentioned one day to my man, " I need more bird feeders and bird houses for our birdy gang! So I gave a few ideas & off he went designing. We just love all our feathered friends here on our land . So many of the birds the past year have set up permanent residence, white crested and red breasted nuthatches , evening grosbeaks , goldfinches, purple finches to name a few! They are like pets to us. 😊 I go through 50 lbs of bird seed a month! The squirrels help with those numbers ,they need to eat too I suppose ! We'll be adding some new items very soon . My husband is designing some really great new birdhouses and feeders I think you'll love! I'm working on all natural soy candles and amazing scents! Also my daughter is working on some really adorable treasures to add as well! Thank you to all of you out there for taking the time to visit us ❤️ and for your support. We really appreciate it.
