Where it all began
How did I start my shop?
Well, going back to the summer of 2014 I was working term times so I had 6 weeks off to do nothing! I decided to teach myself a new skill - how to crochet. Skip a year of following patterns and watching tutorials - there was so much I wanted to make and could never find a way to do it, so I started figuring out how to make my own things.
It started with my Monster. The first green Monster I made is named Marv, and for a long time he was my shop logo! My inspiration and motivation, Marv went a lot of places with me, down to work and away to meetings.
When I realised I could make my own things, I decided to make my Female Nidoran as I couldn't find a pattern for the life of me. When she was complete I wondered what to do with the pattern and realised I could make a small income on them as I only worked part time.
That's where my shop comes in. I set this little shop up in hopes to fill it with all sorts of cute amigurumi creatures and game characters!
Skip forward to today.
Today I still work part time, as a bar tender in a micro pub!
While I'm not at work I plan, design and work new patterns out, making things people may want to make for themselves. I rely on my shop to give me a little bit of income per month from selling mainly patterns.
Everything I make from my shop goes straight back into it. I buy new wools and hooks, new gizmos and crafty gadgets (my newest treat was a mannequin head! She's a life saver!), I buy new notebooks and sketchpads - because until now I never knew how fast I'd get through them!
My end goal is to have thousands of patterns in my shop, and for it to be my sole income. Of course I know that goal is years away from now - but it's something to work for.
My aim is to make a living off nothing but patterns, I know there's a few shops here on Esty who do it (granted they sell plush patterns, not crochet) but they charge a lot for a pattern... for me, it's the quantity of sales, not the quality of cash spent on my patterns.
And well I guess that's it, I don't really know what else to say!
