Creating beauty with tangible and intangible bits has been on my mind since I could make things! I really loved to make jewelry as a young adult. However, after I became a mother, I no longer had time to bring out the complex supplies to put jewelry together. So I tried knitting. All I needed was the needles and the yarn to create. I could pick up and put down the project at a moment's notice. Furthermore, I could knit cute things to give to other people. As a mother of many young children, most of my house work became undone quickly. Creating with yarn meant that my finished object stayed finished. The act of making stitches and working with the soft yarn was therapeutic in itself.
Little did I know when I picked knitting up as a hobby, I was merely wading at the shore of the ocean of fiber arts. I have since learned to crochet, spin yarn on a drop spindle, spin on a spinning wheel, needle felted, and have dabbled around with dyeing fiber. I have found the delight of variety in fibers from a variety of animals. There's still so much I want to try out there. I have wholeheartedly embraced the idea of being a fiber artist for life.
Recently my fiber addiction and love of animals has led me to add some rabbits to our home, two of which are angoras. They grow fiber in the cutest way possible!
To my delight, living in Oregon has been the perfect set up for accessing locally grown fibers. I have discovered the world of small farmers raising fiber animals. It's very grounding to meet the animal who grows your fiber. It's now my goal to bring Oregon small-farm fibers as a major focus in my shop.
There are many earth tones and jewel tones in my shop. They inspire me with their passion and joyfulness. It's hard not to spend most of your life in Oregon and not catch the free-spirited hippie flavor a bit. I hope my handmade goods inspire joy in your life and confidence in yourself.
I believe everyone's life is a journey full of stories and wonder. When we interact with each other we share our journeys with each other. My favorite part of having an Etsy shop is making those connections. When I make a custom for somebody, I'm bringing a little dream of theirs into existence with my talents. That's immensely satisfying.
Bohemian Jubilee means having joy for the journey. Even if we aren't sure where we are bound for, we savor the adventure. We join together with other people to make our journey a bit merrier. We pursue our passions, be astounded by discoveries, and mourn our losses. It's all part of the beauty.
