Boho Guatemala
The first time I visited a Guatemalan craft market in 1989, I was struck by the vast array of colors and ethnic artisanship. The handwoven fabrics, beadwork, weaving, crocheting. Friendship bracelets were the rage those days and everyone was making them to meet the demand of gringos coming and buying. A psychedelic experience. Quite a new experience.
At the time, I was traveling around, selling things here and there—not really planning to start a business, just exploring all my options. Looking for a more solid career path, if you will.
As I had quick success buying and selling on dead tour I fell in love with the business. I spent more and more time in Guatemala learning to develop my own ideas for designs. I starting modifying and tweaking but then fully developing my own ideas into designs. I fell in love with the challenge of discovering things that people wanted. And I loved in when people told me they loved my design.
My Etsy shop is simply a way to share that work with others. Every item represents a partnership and a tradition that continues through the people who make it.
