My art is my therapy
Julie Brooks es la artista detrás de Brookscape Studio. Principalmente autodidacta, también ha estudiado con artistas destacados en encáustica, cerámica, pintura, cianotipia, pintura al óleo con cera fría y arcilla metálica en instituciones como el Museo de Arte de Cape Cod, el Centro de Artes de Truro y el Centro Cultural de Cape Cod.
Es una participante activa en la escena artística de Cape Cod y se la puede ver en las reuniones de Urban Sketchers. También forma parte del Comité de la Galería Marian Crane en la Biblioteca Snow de Orleans.
Posee una maestría en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Syracuse (1989) y una licenciatura en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Boston (1987), con especializaciones en el Renacimiento italiano, el regionalismo estadounidense y el arte holandés del siglo XVII.
Imparte talleres de joyería de metal y arcilla polimérica, cianotipia, impresión en gel, libros de artista y mosaicos de joyería.
Su obra se ha expuesto en muestras con y sin jurado en toda la región de Cape Cod, incluyendo el Truro Center for the Arts, el Falmouth Art Center y el Cotuit Center for the Arts.
En 2025, recibió el Premio Carol Sandler a la Excelencia por su mosaico Belleza y Terror, 3 am, otorgado a una sola pieza en una exposición de más de 100 piezas en el Centro de Artes de Cotuit.
La obra de Brooks forma parte de colecciones privadas en todo Estados Unidos. Está representada por la galería de arte Galley West en Orleans, Massachusetts, y es miembro activa de varias organizaciones artísticas de Cape Cod.

Trabajo con mosaico, encáustica, metal patinado y oxidado, acrílico y óleo; materiales que, como el mundo natural, son impredecibles, estratificados y están llenos de vida, con constantes procesos de descomposición y renovación.
Mi trabajo tiene sus raíces en la ciencia: geología, biología, astronomía; no para explicar, sino para observar, para celebrar, para excavar.
Me atraen lo que pasa desapercibido y lo microscópico: el borde fracturado de un objeto oxidado, la estructura de una célula, la silenciosa coreografía de los átomos.
Estos detalles —a menudo ocultos, fragmentados o ignorados— tienen para mí la misma grandeza que las estrellas y los planetas. En lugar de presentar el mundo como ordenado o resuelto, me inclino hacia su caos, sus asimetrías, su persistencia.
Para mí, la belleza no reside en lo perfecto ni en lo majestuoso, sino en la extraña resistencia de las cosas que nunca fueron diseñadas para durar, pero que de alguna manera lo hacen.
Julie Brooks is the artist behind Brookscape Studio. Primarily self-taught, she has also studied with leading artists in encaustic, ceramics, painting, cyanotype, cold wax oil painting, and metal clay at institutions including the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Truro Center for the Arts, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
An active participant in the Cape Cod art scene, you’ll see her at Urban Sketchers gatherings. She’s also on the Marian Crane Gallery Committee at the Snow Library in Orleans.
She holds an M.A. in Art History from Syracuse University (1989) and a B.A. in Art History from Boston University (1987), with concentrations in Italian Renaissance, American Regionalism, and 17th-century Dutch art.
She leads workshops in metal & polymer clay jewelry, cyanotype, gel printing, artist books, and jewelry mosaics.
Her work has been exhibited in juried and non-juried shows across Cape Cod, including the Truro Center for the Arts, Falmouth Art Center, and the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
In 2025, she received the Carol Sandler Award of Excellence for her mosaic Beauty and Terror, 3 am, given to one piece in a show of more than 100 pieces at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
Brooks’ work is held in private collections throughout the United States. She is represented by Galley West Art Gallery in Orleans, MA, and is an active member of multiple Cape Cod arts organizations.

Artist Statement - Julie Brooks
I work in mosaic, encaustic, patinated and rusted metal, acrylic, and oil — materials that, like the natural world, are unpredictable, layered, and alive with decay and renewal.
My work is rooted in science: geology, biology, astronomy— not to explain, but to observe, to celebrate, to excavate.
I’m drawn to the overlooked and the microscopic: the fractured edge of a rusted object, the structure of a cell, the quiet choreography of atoms.
These details — often buried, broken, or dismissed — carry the same grandeur for me as stars and planets. Rather than presenting the world as orderly or resolved, I lean into its chaos, its asymmetries, its persistence.
Beauty, for me, is not in the perfect or the majestic but in the strange resilience of things that were never designed to last, yet somehow do.
