The impact of Grandma's
I remember so vividly as a small child, my grandmother sitting in her recliner, next to a bay window and crocheting these beautiful tablecloths with a fine cotton yarn. It's a memory forever imbedded in my mind.
Many years later, after she passed, I took up crocheting, initially, to relax and got hooked (no pun intended). Often wish my grandmother was still with us to show her and ask for input ... sigh ...
I have become a bit of a yarn snob. I very quickly learned the importance of picking high quality, premium yarns (preferably on sale). Love making more practical items that are high quality, will last a longtime and are more sustainable in nature. Using washable dishcloths and scrubbies vrs disposable sponges are a small way we all can help with environmental issues along with reducing household expenses.
Hanging dish towels with a crochet topper has become my latest passion. Hunting for either good quality functional everyday use towels or high quality dish towels with unique/different prints and then finding the right colour yarn has literally been a blast. The best part is all the connections and relationships made with my customers across North America. The feedback, positivity, words of encouragement has left me so deeply grateful for all these wonderful people, all found because of tea towels.
Regardless, I have some beautiful memories of my grandma for both gardening and crocheting. Her quiet example taught me the importance of having interests, passions and taking time to relax in our crazy world.
