This is a great sized mallet, and the handle is contoured perfectly. I have smaller hands, so I sometimes have to retrofit tools that are more one-size-fits-all, but this seems like it will genuinely be good for people with varying hand sizes. The only issue I’ve had is that I’ve already caught myself absentmindedly going to toss the mallet out several times — it’s a nice hammer, but I don’t think it’ll come back to me like Thor or anything. That may just be a “me” problem though

This is a really comprehensive and well-written guide. It’s one of the only guides I’ve found for making a sturdy nipping press like this. I’m not planning to follow it exactly, but it’s a great starting point for a novice to both woodworking and bookbinding (like myself).
