Natural History Inspired Art and Accessories

Every illustration starts with a feeling or idea, however small. Capturing them with a quick sketch begins the process.
The drawing process is slow and meticulous, sometimes taking over a month to complete a larger scale illustration.
In the studio
Painting the fine details in something as simple as a leaf can take hours.
Having a diverse collection of reference photos taken during each season helps me create a sense of realism in my work.

Burrowing Home

Burrowing Home is a collection of prints, paper goods and accessories created by artist and illustrator Kelly Mitchell Gazdowicz.

Kelly's meticulously detailed, hand drawn illustrations give birth to a unique world populated with flora and fauna that is slightly askew, with a mythology different from the ordinary. This is something that has captivated her since childhood and what she hopes others will find when looking at her work.

She currently resides on the south side of Detroit with her husband Dave, daughter and son, Lily and Holden and their cat Bumblebee.

Every item in the shop was made by hand, by Kelly, including the temporary tattoos which are printed, constructed and cut by hand.

Can you make me a custom illustration/commission/tattoo design?

I schedule commissions and custom requests a few times a year when my schedule allows. At this time my schedule is currently full.

Can you make me a custom temporary tattoo?

Please note that I only work with my own existing illustrations at this time. If you're interested in one of my designs that is currently not offered as a temporary tattoo or would like one of my current tattoos in a larger size, I'd be more than happy to do so. Please contact me for pricing and turn around time.

Do you offer prints in custom sizes?
