Fulfilling a Need!
Bushakan was founded by Lauren Van Horn and Tobi Adamolekun. The initial eyewear stand was for a gift for Lauren's husband to help bring some order to his ever growing eyewear addiction. Matt, the recipient of the gift, shared it via social media which led to friends and family asking if they could get one.
We decided that the response was so positive that we should start a business. At the time, Tobi was craving a new business and an adventure, and Lauren was craving some creativity in her life as a lawyer. Tobi had previously worked at world renowned architecture firms and started a sustainable design consulting practice and Lauren had spent the prior five years working as a lawyer and also submersed in the technology startup space through her husband, making them a perfect fit.
A few months after meeting, Bushakan launched a Kickstarter campaign, and successfully raised just over $16,542. With these funds, we rented a shared workspace, purchased our own wood-cutting CNC machine, and completed our first production of stands.
Since then we've continued to grow the business and built a company that creates design driven products in unique and innovative ways. Although we started with eyewear stands, we've since launched a line of stands for digital devices such as iPhones and iPads. Our goal is to combine practicality with beauty and every Bushakan product holds true to this vision.
All our products are made in our shop in San Francisco.
