How this came to BEE...
I live in a small town in Massachusetts, i live on a pieces of property that was original purchased by my parents. the parcel was about 10 ac of land. I come from a family of 5 siblings. We all moved out but not far from each other. my two oldest sisters moved first and one ended up about 3 miles away and the other across the street. My self, my brother and youngest sister decided to purchase land from my parents and build where we grew up. Because we livid in close proximity to each other all of our children (the cousins) were close growing up. My oldest Nephew (lived across the street) was always interested in bugs, from a little guy through adulthood. His interest in bugs lead him to be interested in bees and bee keeping. Being that we were close and he had a willingness to share his knowledge of these interesting little creatures i became interested. I bought my first hive through one of the large companies and it arrived un-assembled. I was anxious to get the package opened so i could start assembling this awesome piece of "furniture" that i would house my bees in. I started my first hive with a Langstroth hive. Once i started assembling the hive and realized that it was not constructed by hand, but rather, pumped out of a factory with little to no care, needless to say i was a bit disappointed. (i forgot to mention my father, myself and Brother are all carpenters) i thought maybe others would feel the same way and want a quality built hive at a good price. I built my own hives from then on. I published my services on the local Craigslist. A very kind and generous individual found my add and had me build this new (natural) hive. the top bar hive. I built the first one and she introduced me to people that she was taking some bee classes with and the Buzzing Rooster was born.
My love for wood working and being creative seems to be a jean that was passed down from my father. I've taken many jobs from cooking, IT manager, construction, sales, electrical wiring, but i can suppress my love for making "things". Fortunately i have a wife that is creative in her own right. She has the qualities i wish i could have. She has a great mind, a steady hand, she's raised our 4 children with more patients than i will ever have and all the while dealing with my creativity. sometimes feeding into it and other times keeping it a bay.
I hope you enjoyed a portion of my story, there's more , until then BEE yourself.
