Calunica is a family adventure founded in 2013 by Miriam and Noé Plata. It started as a spare room art studio where Miriam would paint and sell her work at craft shows and in local galleries. What was then known as Plata Art grew into a screen printing workshop taking over half of their house. Calunica artwork and clothing can be found in stores, online and at festivals on the Central Coast of California.
Miriam and Noé grew up on opposite sides of the world. Miriam in Norway and Noé in Mexico. In 2012, their paths crossed in California when they both decided to dust off their guitars and take a music class at the local college. They fell in love over sheet music and chord progressions, and the next year they were married.
Miriam was a preschool teacher and Noé a pizza cook. One morning, while walking their dog and talking about their dreams to own their own business, they decided that screen printing a clothing line would be a great way to combine her craft and artistry with his style and work ethic into a family business. Ever since, they have been devoted to pursuing this dream.
The business, as well as the Plata Family, continued to grow, and with the addition of a baby came a line of baby apparel. What started as Plata Art, paintings and a line of clothing screen printed in their garage, has become CALUNICA and grown into a wonderful line of earth friendly clothing made for you.
