More Than a Maker's Mark
CMD Leather Goods started simply. I wanted a leather journal cover and wallet for myself, so I decided to make them. What began as a couple of personal projects quickly became something I genuinely enjoyed: working with leather, learning the craft, and making useful pieces by hand that are meant to be carried, used, and broken in over time.
I'm a Marine veteran, husband, and father. Family is an important part of who I am and also the reason behind the CMD name.
CMD stands for Charlie Madilyn David, my firstborn daughter, who passed away. Using her initials as my maker's mark gives this small business a name that means far more to me than simply putting my own name on a product. Every piece that leaves my workbench carries her initials with it.
Today, I make leather journals, wallets, and everyday carry goods one piece at a time in Texas. Each stitched piece is hand stitched using the traditional saddle-stitch method, creating a strong, durable seam designed to hold up to years of use. I enjoy using leather with character, and I don't believe a handmade leather product needs to look like it came off an assembly line. Natural grain, pull-up, scars, color variation, and the patina that develops through use are part of what makes each piece unique.
CMD Leather Goods is still a small operation, and that's exactly how I want to approach it: make useful things, use good materials, continue improving my craft, and put my name behind what I make.
Handcrafted. Built to last. Made in Texas.
