Dixie was born in Oklahoma but was raised in the artistic villages of Los Angeles California. From very early on, she used art as a form of expressing her interests. As a young girl she identified with the fabled Amazon Queen Calafia and her band of women warriors. Dixie was enthralled by this strong heroine and sketched her, vowing she too would one day explore the Amazon. Dixie did turn out to be an explorer of sorts. She has traversed sacred sights and historical ruins all over the world and has drawn creative inspiration from her time in Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, China, Japan, Thailand, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and the local beauty of the American Four Corners. In college, Dixie shared the sentiments in the Impressionist and Mannerist forms of art. After graduating with a degree in Art History she moved to Park City, Utah where she began water color paintings of Anasazi bowls and pottery. This sparked interested in mixing the mediums of acrylic, watercolor and color pencils in her pieces. Now, her artistic focus has shifted to clay working and sculpting. She makes masks, tiles, beads, teapots, necklaces and even chess sets. Several of her items have been used in fundraisers for the American Cancer Association. Her personal maxim remains- People who choose to be surrounded by beauty, tend to be a happier lot.
