Hippo Slipper Crisis
The idea for Toasty Toes started one cold January morning a few days after a blizzard had come through the south. My feet were cold and I wanted hippo slippers, so I got on-line and started looking. The problem? I couldn't find any in my size!
Then it hit me: make my own! I dug out an old slipper pattern for a general guide, tweaked it quite a bit to get the dimensions and appearance I wanted, and then added ears, eyes, and nostrils. And tails. (The tails are my favorite part.) Several hours later, my toes were toasty and my feet were adorable.
That got me thinking. If I wanted cute animal slippers to fit my adult sized feet, surely there were others like me. I started by selling to friends and co-workers, and eventually expanded to online. The best part was I now had justification for buying more yarn!
Over the past three years, Toasty Toes has grown to include more sizes, varieties, and even some non-slipper options. But I still design and make all products myself...and I still wear my hippo slippers when it's cold outside.
