One of a Kind, Hand Dyed, Shibori Fabrics
I love color & pattern, and working with textiles. Over the years, I've dabbled in batik, quilting, knitting, rug hooking, printing and dyeing. Ten years ago I discovered Shibori, the ancient Japanese resist technique in which fabric is manipulated and dyed to create pattern. This process entails many aspects of creating, that I truly love. I get to spend hours hand stitching, surrounded by spools of thread, a vintage pincushion, and a crisp cotton or textured linen. After fabric prep, I slosh around in buckets of dye turning white material into beautiful patterns. Unbinding each piece, whether it has been stitched, folded or wrapped, is an exciting moment, since I can't be exactly sure how the finished piece will appear.
I continually try new designs, while restocking the favorites.
I consider Cape Cod Shibori my main job, but I also have a part-time gig in a pottery studio. I like gardening, drawing and painting (when there's time), and activities that have to do with food. Traveling is pretty great, too.
