Cedar Quilt Co. started the way a lot of good things do — with a baby who wouldn't nap and a to-do list I kept ignoring.
About a year and a half ago, I was on maternity leave with my daughter and fell completely down the quilting rabbit hole. What started as a distraction became the thing I look forward to most.
What grabbed me was the math of it. I'm a spreadsheet person at heart — I like systems, I like when things click into a satisfying whole. The geometry of a block, the logic of a pattern, the way a quarter inch can make or break everything. It made sense to my brain in a way I didn't expect from something made of fabric.
Then came the memory quilts — and that's when it got personal. My first real project was turning my daughter's outgrown baby clothes into something we'd actually keep. It came out imperfect and wonderful, and I ugly-cried a little when I finished it. Now I understand why people hold onto fabric. Every piece has a story, and quilting is just a really beautiful way to tell it.
I'm based in the Pacific Northwest, sewing on a Janome MC 9850 with two dogs underfoot and a fabric stash my husband has been very patient about. The patterns in this shop are ones I've actually built and tested — clear enough for a newer quilter, detailed enough for someone who wants to understand the why behind every step.
