Setting sail with the Castaways!
The Castaway Trading Company is the pet project of Michael Sheridan and Sarah Rose - two intrepid artists, adventurers, and general ne'er-do-wells, who strive to deliver the most authentic and unique accessories this side of Tortuga.
Sarah is the daughter of a deposed Crown Princess of Sweden (you know the one) and a mysterious Frenchman whose identity has never been confirmed. At the tender age of 3 she was lent to a family of French-Hungarian circus performers in order to pay off the Princess' growing debts, and with this troupe of vagabonds she made her way to America, becoming the youngest flaming-chainsaw-juggler in sideshow history. When Sarah came of age, she struck out on her own to seek her fortune.
Michael is the natural son of a poor Scotch/Irish moisture farmer, and an even poorer Yugoslavian itinerant schoolmarm. At the age of seven, Michael won first place in the International Whistling Olympics, taking home the incredible grand prize of seven-dollars-and-thirty-two-cents. He used the prize money to purchase for himself a pirate ship in order that he might plunder the Spanish Main. This proved ill-advised, however, as seven-dollars-and-thirty-two-cents surprisingly could not buy a particularly fearsome vessel - also, most of the Spanish Main had already been plundered dry centuries ago, and furthermore, he turned out to be a remarkably poor pirate. Nevertheless, he managed to scrape together a meager living, and on one fateful day when he was but a young vagabond, his crew captured the ship carrying Sarah Rose from Boston Harbor to Atlantic City, New Jersey.
It was, as they say, love at first sight - but alas their bliss was short lived, as they were soon shipwrecked in a terrible storm, and cast away on a supposedly-deserted tropical island, not marked on any charts. Here, they began to trade with the native islanders, learning from them skills for making exotic trinkets, jewelry, and leather goods - and thus, the Castaway Trading Company was born.
Today, Sarah and Michael live with their various animal companions, in a comfortable townhome in Littleton, Colorado. Though arguably fully domesticated, they continue to make uniquely quirky accessories, with an emphasis on the nautical, the the well-agéd, and the macabre. Michael still enjoys whistling, and if you ask really, really nicely, Sarah may just juggle a flaming chainsaw or two for you.
P.S. That last part is true.
P.P.S. Except the bit with the chainsaws.
