5 out of 5 starsI love the William Morris quilt fabrics, and I was so pleased to find several in coordinating colors. I received mine quickly, and they were most carefully packed.

5 out of 5 starsI love all the pieces of William Morris fabric that I bought from CatesSewModern. And the order got here VERY quickly! I was delighted! The colors were accurately shown on the website, so the table topper I’m making for our coffee table is exactly what I wanted. I HIGHLY recommend this shop and have already purchased other items.

Owner, Curator
Cate moved to Shoreline CT in 2013, jonesing to find her quilting peeps. Unable to quickly find a community, she did what any sane person would do: opened a one-of-a-kind modern fabric shop, with classes and an e-commerce site, all in year one.

Frequently asked questions
When will my order be shipped?
Our phone is ringing as much as a takeout pizza joint's, but we've added to the team and we are now able to take local appointments, fill curbside orders taken on phone or via Etsy, and also get items ordered before 2pm EDT out the same day, assuming no complications (e.g., short on fabric ordered.) PLEASE: Monitor your Etsy messages closely once you place an order so any questions we have can be answered quickly and your order will not be unduly delayed. Thank you so much!
Take good care,
Cate, Liz, Mia, Becca, Sarah and Betty.
Fabric Availability
Because we operate a brick and mortar shop as well and are going at breakneck speed, there's always a chance that some of our listed fabrics can sell out before they get deactivated.
Etsy is also suffering from a glitch where sold out items randomly reappear for sale and we must write you and explain that the item is long gone. They have not solved this problem yet, and we apologize in advance if you end up selecting one of those "ghosts."
If we discover we don't have enough to cover something in your order, we will contact you immediately, so be sure to monitor your Etsy convos -- as with a purchase from any Etsy shop -- so your order is not unduly delayed.
Thank you!
What happens if my order gets lost in the mail or arrives damaged from shipping?
We cannot be responsible for any lost or damaged packages. Although we pack all orders as carefully as possible, what happens to them once they've left our hands is beyond our control.
Orders valued below $200 will not be insured unless you, the buyer, specify that you'd like shipping insurance and pay for the additional insurance cost. If shipping insurance is requested, we will send you a PayPal invoice for the additional cost and only ship your order once this invoice has been paid, unless Etsy's excess shipping charges can be used to cover the insurance cost. In this case we can simply deduct that amount from any shipping overage refund we would send your way.
NOTE: All orders of $200+ MUST be insured at buyer's expense.
Will I receive my fabric in one continuous piece?
Yes! When you order from us, we will always cut your fabric in one continuous piece, right off the bolt, unless we do not have enough on one bolt to do so. If that's the case, we will contact you. The only exception is with pre-cuts -- e.g. fat quarters, bundles, etc.
What happens if I don't read the item title or description and mistakenly order your fabric by the yard, instead of by the half yard?
If you qualify for free shipping with the first order, and then contact us saying you only got half your order amount shipped to you, you will be required to pay shipping for the second 1/2 of your order, regardless of order value. We will send you an invoice for the shipping cost and fees and will not place your order in queue to be filled until the shipping cost is paid. So PLEASE: (1) read the shop policies, the "about this shop," etc AND/OR just simply read the item's heading fully and description!!
Custom and personalized orders
We are happy to create custom orders for customer to make it easier to order, or because you want fat quarters ($3.99 for most) or a custom cut. Just write us a convo from one of the listings you'd like and we can take it from there.
What if the Screen Image Does Not Match the Actual Fabric Upon Receipt?
We use images provided by the vendor as long as we agree that the real life item and that image capture the fabric's essence. If the vendor's image does not do a good enough job, we will take our own shots to see if we can improve on them and make a note in the description if we cannot do so.
We cannot be held responsible for how images appear on different browsers and screens, since people view them on different types of devices (phones, tablets, computer screens of all sizes) and screens' resolutions vary, can be set at different brightness levels, color themes etc. Furthermore, computer screens have adjustments to color/RBG that can further skew the image. Colors near the image can also affect how the image is perceived.
