I have been passionate about art for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life I felt a need to put my own spin on whatever I did; and in elementary school I was known to do my math in color. As I grew older and associated with more artistic people, I felt a compelling urge to do assignments with my own twist. I enjoy painting subject matter that could be described as realism with my little twist, (or maybe it’s just my twisted brain!) and I have come to call my work whimsical realism... except when it's not realism, then it's just whimsical and maybe a little twisted. However my “twists” are in a positive direction!
I consider myself to be self taught. I attended the University of Utah for one year, until marriage took me away to live in Colorado, but eventually I returned to my home state Utah. I have 5 children and consider raising them as an education in itself. Divorce came about half way through - another education!However, we coped and being a single mom has led me to my very rewarding art career.
Currently art is not totally full time. In the past years as I have added the lovely privilege of being able to tend my granddaughter and be a caregiver for a handicapped grandson a few hours a week. Although it does cut into my painting time - It is with no regrets!
I call my studio Pure Art, because Catherine means 'pure'. Now, with tending the grandkids, in order to be more productive, I have had to form a mini studio in my living room. I also have a small room that is shared with toys, art and shipping supplies!
I consider all things to have a spiritual impact on us, and am loving the journey I am on.
After serving as president for 12 years of Local Colors of Utah Gallery in Salt Lake City, I recently left. I currently am pursuing other ventures. At this time and in upcoming weeks I will be showing at Havenlight Gallery in both their locations in Midvale and Orem Utah. I have won numerous rewards for my art over the years. I love making art!!!
In 2008-2009, I served as the President of the Utah Watercolor Society, and am an honorary member and a signature member of UWS.
