Copper cookware specialist focusing on handmade pieces from the late 18th to early 19th century

    Ceres Copper Cookware

Since childhood, I had an interest in cooking. Experiencing traditions and recipes passed down from generations gives me a sense of bonding with family members whom I never had the chance to share a meal. As a child, arriving home to the aroma coming from my mother’s kitchen was a welcome greeting. Now, creating her recipes for my family brings back memories as comfortable as a favorite pair of jeans ready for retirement. That connection to the past lured me to antique cookware, especially copper.

For centuries, copper was the predominant choice for cookware. It possesses excellent conductivity and provides even heat distribution. Quality is evident when a pan crafted more than one hundred years ago may still be used today. Professionals and food enthusiasts continue to choose copper for these characteristics.

The history of each piece is revealed through smithing techniques, maker’s marks, owner’s initials, and wear patterns. One can imagine how these copper pans were put to work by their previous owners; from a humble cottage fire to the busy kitchen of a metropolitan restaurant. Becoming more unique as it passes from generation to generation, slowly evolving from years of service. Each unique aspect adds to the experience of preparing a meal, while the current owner contributes to the history of a pan.

Many of the items I sell are antiques, selected for their quality. Most are intended for regular use in your kitchen. Occasionally, newer or vintage items are listed based on their condition and adherence to traditional methods of construction.

The inspiration for our company name comes from the Roman goddess of agriculture, Ceres. In ancient Rome, Ceres was honored around seasonal changes, as well as, during times of celebration and remembrance. Ceres Copper continues that tradition by inspiring gatherings of family and friends sharing a meal, from simple to extravagant.

My family and I live in a coastal town outside Portland, Maine. We are fortunate to have access to local staples from hard working farmers, growers and fishermen, which help us turn simple ingredients into memorable meals.
