The Tale of Chair Whimsy
I've always had a thing for chairs and design...but I took the safe route back in college more than 20 years ago and studied to be a teacher. And while I've enjoyed the journey of being an educator, author, and trainer, I've never quite gotten over my first love.
In 2012, I enrolled in several consecutive upholstery courses as a way of taking a step towards that dream. What I discovered was that each chair presented a distinct challenge and multiple opportunities for problem solving. To me, chairs have personalities that call for certain fabrics and paint treatments. These are the elements that really make the chairs special and bring out their hidden beauty.
Chair Whimsy officially opened in December of 2012 and within a few weeks, had its first sale. I began acquiring more chairs which quickly filled the house and garage. By October of 2013, we all agreed it was time to build a shop in the large backyard. Electricity, flooring, and insulation have followed. It's great to have that space for uninterrupted creativity!
Almost all of my work revolves around customization of chairs. Everyone has a space that is different, and I thrive on helping my clients create that special piece to make their spaces unique.
