Amulets and Talismans for Modern Souls
Using jewelry and design, I like to explore the duality of our own nature - delving into both the dark and the light sides of the natural world. Skulls and seashells hold equal fascination, each is perfect and beautiful in it's own unique way. We don't view life in simple terms such as good or bad, there is beauty in both sides.
Chase and Scout is for people looking for that great piece of jewelry that speaks directly to them. My hope is to design jewelry that resonates deeply with the wearer and I love working with clients on custom designs.
To me, jewelry is much more than simple adornment. It can beautify, but it can also reveal the true nature of the wearer. Chase and Scout is not for everyone, but speaks to the discerning soul looking for the unique, the beautiful and the unusual.
Why Support Handmade?
This quote from Etsy founder Rob Kalin sums it up:
"(Within Etsy) the intention is to support the independent artist and create viable alternatives to mass-produced objects in the world's marketplace. With the Industrial Revolution we lost the connection between producer and consumer; we no longer know who makes our daily bread, our clothes or our furniture."
This really struck a chord with me - to lose touch with the maker and the process is to render an object soulless. I am involved with my work every step of the way -- I design, carve, fabricate, sometimes enamel, set stones, cast metal, polish, photograph, describe, package and send each piece with love and good intention. I am hands on and I hope a little of that happiness and joy travels along with each creation.
Becoming a self supporting artist and working designer has been a dream come true. A life in the arts was always considered a viable career path in my family and I have been blessed with an abundance of encouragement to follow my artistic leanings. As a designer and artisan maker I have been so fortunate to be embraced by the design community with features in Architectural Digest, Domino, Lucky Magazine, Tush Germany, Shop Till You Drop Australia, Austin Monthly, Tribeza, Daily Candy and Design Sponge.
