The early morning mist in Western North Carolina always carried the scent of wet pine and damp earth, filtering through the studio windows as the first light hit the Blue Ridge slopes. For Chris, that cool morning air was the official starting bell.
His wheel sat in the studio garage of their cabin. Michelle spends her weekdays teaching third graders, but her weekends are reserved for pottery. Chris’s work has a distinctly rugged personality: From his line of custom Bigfoot mugs, to sea life creations
The mugs are sturdy, hand-thrown 16-ounce stoneware beasts designed to keep coffee piping hot during cold Appalachian mornings.
As the sun reaches its peak over the ridge, Chris sets the last mug on the drying board, carefully smoothing down the heel of a tiny clay Bigfoot footprint. In a studio tucked deep in the hills, surrounded by the very forests that fueled the legend, there was no better place to craft a little bit of mountain magic, one mug at a time.
