Edison lamps have come to define Claremont Designs, at least in the world of Etsy. While the beauty of the Edison lamp might be in the vintage look and feel of the bulb's glowing filaments, I focus my work on the wood case. All of my pieces are handmade and prominently feature through dovetails on all of the corners.

Claremont Designs features the furniture of Alex Aldag. It is named after the location of the original shop (on Claremont Avenue in Chicago, IL). Only a limited number of pieces are crafted each year. My primary woods of choice are walnut and cherry. Core to my design philosophy are the notions that not all flaws in wood should be hidden and that the unique character of each piece of lumber should be evident in the final design.

These lamps are do beautiful and elegant -- so many of my friends have ordered their own after seeing them at my house! Adam takes such care with each and is very responsive and dedicated to making his clients happy with their finished product. I also love the dimmer capacity -- let's me create whatever mood the evening calls for!

Amazing. Alex was very responsive and wonderful to work with. We got the Koa wood base, and it is absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship is admirable - I got this for my husband and he can't stop telling people to look at the dovetail- look at the finish! Highly recommended.

Building furniture I like; hopefully you do too

Claremont Designs started in Chicago, IL in an alley off of Claremont Ave. The shop produces a small number of unique pieces each year. Most of the original pieces were tables and casework, but increasingly the shop has been associated with Edison Lamps.

Since the start of Claremont Designs, the shop has relocated to Fredericksburg, VA and the output has picked up a bit. At best, the shop gets used 8 days a month; this is a fun activity for the weekends. Even with the limited amount of shop time, the shop is now producing 2-3 lamps a month. Almost all pieces are made to order, but occasionally I'll find a nice piece of lumber and make a lamp that's ready to ship.
