Notebooks made just for potters!
As a pottery hobbyist who works in a community studio space, I've learned that it's very important to take detailed notes about each piece I create. Not only does it help me recreate glaze techniques that I love (or avoid ones I don't!), but our shelves fill up very fast and it can be hard to tell one piece from the next! Good notes are crucial to keep the many stages of pottery-making straight.
With limited time in the studio, however, it can be really tempting to skip the notetaking step and get right to the good stuff: the throwing, trimming, & glazing. After skimping on my notes one time too many (Did I ever bisque fire that mug? How the heck did I glaze that beautiful pitcher?), I decided to put my day job (graphic design) skills to use and create a notebook that would help me quickly record my pottery process.
I created a notebook that I would want to use: icons to circle, checkboxes to check, and fields to fill in about greenware decoration steps and glaze layers. I found it so useful that I thought other potters might enjoy it too.
The result is ClayNotes. I hope you find it useful, and that it lets you spend more time on the part you love most: the making!
