Everything in this shop is handmade. Given the time, effort, and care that goes into each and every item, there just cannot be any meat left on the bone for other retailers to have a crack at. Thanks for thinking about it though; if enough people were buying from small shops and not big box retailers, this sort of thing might even make sense.
Why isn't this item perfect?
I make all the things in this shop by hand, with the tools I have available, to the best of my ability on any given day. That does not mean the skill and execution is consistently high. Some days are just bad days, right? Some mistakes are hard to correct. Maybe I'm better at doing that sort of thing now, and that thing I made and all its imperfections are how I got better. It's still cool though, right? Maybe investing in something that's cool and slightly imperfect is you supporting cool things. Good on you, I'm proud of you and you should be proud of you too. You get to be part of the team, check it! Also maybe there's a licensing issue and I don't want to get sued. Lawyers cost a whole lot more than crafters make.
Is this real?
Would it be $5 (for example) if it was "real"? If you attempt to pick it up, will your hand pass through it? No. But think about it: it's an item intended for cosplay or display. If it looks like a sword, will it chop through arms and legs? If it's armor, will it ward off blows from steel swords and crossbow bolts? You may have the wrong idea in general, and let's be honest: is it priced like it's something you should be confident wading into full-tilt battle with? So yeah, it's a real cosplay item. No, it's not a weapon you're going to get arrested just for owning (no that is not a guarantee, implied or otherwise, who knows what you get up to).
