Stained Glass brings beauty to light.
As an 18 year old, I wanted to express my creativity, but how? A boyfriend introduced me to this art by making me a piece of stained glass, a peacock. I learned how to cut and solder and appreciate the art of stained glass.
The art and craft of a stained glass enthusiast is something that arouses a passion that can only be fulfilled by cutting, soldering, and creating stained glass; it's in the blood, so to speak. Those who love it, stick with it, and continue to create, and experiment, and thoroughly enjoy the finished product.
It started for me 35 years ago. I have taught other interested friends over the decades, and they certainly appreciate the fruit of their labor, but it doesn't become a passion. For me, stained glass became an expression for my creativity. My dad was an artist with his hands; he could paint, build, remodel, restore, etc. My brothers followed in his suit. My mother was an interior designer. The one thing that sparked my flame of creativity was glass. I love glass; I collect glass; I appreciate the fluidity of glass. An ideal trip for me is to tour glass making factories, and to scour through glass shops.
I'm sad to say that the glass making factories in the style of Tiffany (a real master) are dwindling. I don't begin to compare myself to that level of art, but I will continue to do my part in keeping stained glass alive.
