ColorParadePrints features the works of my Dad, late artist Peter K. Hoag
Peter K. Hoag (1929-2009) earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Bard College, New York, NY, in 1953 and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI, in 1954. He was known locally in his hometown, Lancaster, PA, as a fine artist winning several local awards. His woodblock prints have been exhibited in galleries and art societies in numerous cities including Lancaster, PA, Rochester, NY, and New York City. A piece entitled “The Cry” from 1955 is maintained in collections at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/cry-10575) and the University of Michigan Museum of Art (https://umma.umich.edu/objects/the-cry-2002-2-97/).
Peter’s early woodblock prints from the 1950s feature bold, abstract shapes and colors. His style evolved over the years to include intricate patterns and shapes such as faces, landscapes, animals and cityscapes with themes inspired by his travels throughout the world.
Dedicated to his art, Peter spent countless hours drawing the designs, transferring them to the woodblocks, and carving the designs into the wood. He then hand rolled the ink onto the block and hand pressed the paper to the block, often using multiple carved woodblocks, one for each color, to create each unique finished print.
