Colourful creations from the Australian bush with a Nordic twist
My name is Mi – and welcome to Colours on Grey.
Everything here is carefully handmade by me in my smoke-free, sunlit home studio set in the Australian bush on the Northern Tableland of NSW.
I am first and foremost an abstract painter using texture and colour. I also quite enjoy photography.
I grew up in Denmark spending most of my holidays either at my grandparent’s farm or in the lovely town of Menton on the Mediterranean coast of France.
In my thirties I migrated to Australia to pursue a lifelong dream of living a creative life in relaxing and tranquil ( or ‘hyggelige’ in Danish ) surroundings.
Initially I wanted to write, but my English was not nearly good enough. Instead I began to experiment with clay, always being fascinated by the way the clay can transform into a bowl on a fast spinning wheel. Not being a natural at the wheel I went back to painting - something I've always been doing – but this time taking it more seriously.
I paint and craft with paper and fabric - and enjoy bringing new life to old and rejected items.
I create colourful abstract paintings incorporating paper and lots of texture.Through my art I unite impressions from two continents and cultures that over time has become “me”.
I participated in my first group exhibition in the late 90’ties and had my first solo exhibition in 2007.
A passion for paper initiated the creation of cards and collages in 2002 and the participation in several printing courses sparked an interest in printing.
I love working with paper and fabric, new as well as re-cycled, which gives me a nice break away from the paintbrushes.
I can happily say that I now live life creatively, just like I always dreamt about, - even if the dream was set in France and not in the Australian Bush.
