It all started about a decade ago.
A simple act of compassion can change the course of someone’s entire life. Every action matters, and every candle shared or lit with intention can create profound comfort. Our candles serve as tangible reminders - compassion in form and the light we can share. Candles bring light into our darkest hours. They share strength when we feel unable to bear the weight ourselves. Candles help us feel the presence of our loved ones after they have passed. Lighting a candle for someone says, "I love you and I see you.” Light has the power to ground and unite us, making others (and ourselves) feel loved and supported.
Light is also ignited through humor, so you'll see it sprinkled about.
It all started about a decade ago. Every year on my Mom’s birthday I would buy a new candle and keep it lit for her all day. It was my way of saying, "I love you. Today we celebrate you.” When a family member or friend was heading into surgery or shared sad news with me, I would buy a new candle and keep it lit all day, and often many days. It was my way of sending them strength and healing intentions. When words aren’t enough or I was in another state and couldn’t be there —I would send them a candle.
These experiences have taught me that we all have the power to send light. Whether it's through the glow of a candle, making someone giggle, showing up at a doorstep with food and flowers, listening without judgment, or honoring the good in someone’s heart, our capacity to make a difference is greater than we think.
