The story behind Consider the World
My name is Emily, and I've started Consider the World as a source for unique hand painted globes. The name Consider the World comes from the first verse of the hymn How Great Thou Art. I've had the blessing of traveling all over the world in the last few years, and when I hear the lyrics, "consider all the worlds Thy hands have made," I picture all the amazing people and places I've come to love. The song encourages us to worship God when we witness his creation.
When I see different locations on the globes as I'm painting them, I picture the people I know there. There are so many big needs around the world, and one of my goals is to help others consider the world in the way they live. Through storytelling and art I hope to share some of the needs I've seen.
About twelve years ago I did an internship at a children’s home in Guatemala called Casa Bernabé, and I have remained involved there ever since. I now serve on the Board of Directors, so I get to spend a lot of time in Guatemala. I began sponsoring a sweet girl there when she was four years old, and she’s turning 17 soon. Getting to see her grow up has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

There are almost 100 kids living at Casa Bernabé because they were orphaned, abandoned, abused, or experienced other crises. They live in family units (like group foster care) with a Guatemalan family in each home caring for 10-12 children. In addition to the family units, we have a school serving about 300 kids and several community programs.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale in the shop goes to support the kids at Casa Bernabé and help give them the chance to heal and have a future. I’m so thankful each time my phone buzzes with a new order because it’s one more piece of the puzzle of caring for these children in a time when raising funds has been challenging.
